Swimming was fantastic - we all loved it!

Filled to the brim with excitement we boarded the bus to the swimming pool! The Field of Dreams programme is provided free to our students and we are so lucky to be part of it as it is very popular!

Mandarin meets technology - we love Quizlets!!

Miss Han has been making our Mandarin Learning more interactive and collaborative with Quizlets about the basic language we are learning - colours, body parts etc. Here we are in teams and competing against the clock to see who can match the correct Mandarin words to the images. Miss Han sets the quiz on live so that each team can see how fast they can get their answers in and view the leaderboard at the front screen. There was a quiz for those who can speak Mandarin at home to set them a higher challenge and one for those who are learning the basics.

Te Reo meets Technology - Language Lab

Mrs Harding set us the challenge of using a Kahoot quiz to see if we knew our greetings, days of the week and colours in Te Reo. We absolutely loved assessing our own learning like this as we could all participate, working with a buddy and challenge ourselves - using the GEM of Self-Belief! We were enjoying ourselves so much we didn't want to go out to morning tea!

Mandarin using 'magic' ink paper and water to write our characters!

We just didn't want to stop - how did learning a new language become so fun and interactive?!!

Vector and Safety around electricity - be smart everyone!

R14 and R15 were really interested in the facts behind how we connect to electricity and how much goes into our houses!

Elspeth from Vector was a great presenter with so many facts and stories to tell us. Did you know we are 70% water?

Eliza, Adam and Lucas tried on the special electricity resistant clothes the Electrical Engineers wear when they are working on our power lines. Leather and rubber materials are protective fabrics for the clothes they wear.

Mandarin Greetings and Paper cutting

Miss Han has been sharing Chinese culture with us as well as teaching us how to say our name in Mandarin and Greetings for different times of the day.

We need to practice before we have our lesson again next week. If you are stuck then ask a friend in our class who can speak Mandarin to help you with your pronunciation.

Te Tahawai Marae

Adam introduces himself using the Korero rakau

Daisy introduces herself and says where she was born.

Making kowhaiwhai patterns with templates.

Even the parent supporters introduced themselves. Ka pai Whanau!

Inside the Wharenui there were lots of stories behind the carvings, tukutuku panels and kowhaiwhai patterns. We all learned something new today.

Waiata and Te Reo at the Marae

Haere mai, Haere mai!

Today Room 14 visited Te Tahawai Marae at Edgewater College in Pakuranga. We are learning about where the tangata whenua of Pakuranga came from and who lived here before us. We are going to take our new findings back to school and continue our Inquiry into Turangawaewae - A Place to stand - Belonging.

We were represented by Oscar who read his Mihimihi with great pride, and in a clear and confident voice. We all sang our Sunnyhills School waiata Whakarongo a.

Mrs Trembath was so proud of how we represented our school with great Mana. Thank you to the wonderful whanau who gave up their time to accompany us and support us in our learning.

Te Reo with Mrs Harding

Te Reo is with Mrs Harding in the Kakariki Room

Today we all practiced our colours and vowels sounds.

We really enjoy the  A Haka Mana song which helps us say the vowel sounds correctly.

Then we practised introducing ourselves

Ko wai koe? Who are you?

Ko _______ ahau.
I am ________.
